St. Gabriel's Church, Heaton, Newcastle upon Tyne

St. Gabriel's church was built on land given by Lord Armstrong at the time when Heaton was expanding to meet the needs of local industry. It is constructed in snecked sandstone with Westmoreland slate. It is a well-known building which can be seen from all four corners of the parish.

From the beginning St. Gabriel’s was a very active church, hosting and running many religious and community activities including a boys’ choir and one of the first Scout Troops in the area.

Regular church services take place on Sundays and throughout the week. Choral music, led by Choir Director Tim Burke, greatly enhances the Parish Eucharist. There is a thriving Junior Church.

St. Gabriel's was recently awarded £5,000 from Northumbria Historic Churches Trust to help with the improvement to their toilet facilities. The works were completed in May 2023.

In respect of comments from the parish committee, the following was received:

"St. Gabriel’s is a church used a great deal by the community and we like to be a welcoming church to all. The grant given to St. Gabriel's from Northumbria Historic Churches Trust has enabled us to refurbish our church toilets to a standard that you would expect in the twenty-first century as well as providing much needed additional storage space. We are very grateful indeed".

All Saints Church, Lobley Hill, Gateshead

The Trustees of NHCT recently awarded All Saints Church, Lobley Hill, Gateshead £5000 towards stonework. The works were completed in August 2023 and this has had a fantastic impact on the church and its community.

St Mary Magdalene Church, Medomsley, Consett

St Mary Magdalene Church was recently awarded £2949.30 for a new efficient gas boiler to replace the existing one. The church is Grade 1 listed and built in the 12th. century. The church is central and focus point to village life. It is open for adult and children's art and craft groups, Warm Space, coffee mornings and fayres, as well as Services and Remembrance Day Services. The local church school uses the church regularly for school services such as Harvest, Easter, Christmas and Leavers Services.
