St Cuthbert’s Church, Peterlee Awarded a Grant of £5,000

St Cuthbert’s is a relatively modern church, built in 1957. The Trust awarded a grant of £5000 to help pay for replacement of flat roofs, ceiling panels and damp plaster following water ingress.

It is the only Anglican church in Peterlee and is well used by the local community. It is one of the largest churches in the Durham Diocese. 

The church is noted for an unusual feature, the baldacchino, or canopy over the altar. It was awarded a bronze medal by the Royal Institute of British architects in 1958.

The Trustees of NHCT recently awarded All Saints Church, Lobley Hill, Gateshead £5000 towards stonework. The works were completed in August 2023 and this has had a fantastic impact on the church and its community.

St Mary Magdalene Church, Medomsley, Consett Awarded a Grant of £2,949.30

St Mary Magdalene Church was recently awarded £2949.30 for a new efficient gas boiler to replace the existing one.  The church is Grade 1 listed and built in the 12th. century. The church is central and focus point to village life. It is open for adult and children's art and craft groups, Warm Space, coffee mornings and fayres, as well as Services and Remembrance Day Services. The local church school uses the church regularly for school services such as Harvest, Easter, Christmas and Leavers Services.
