Grants

Over the last few months the Trust has been reviewing its grants policies and procedures. There will be no major change to previous practice, but all of our grants documentation is being rewritten. As it becomes available it will be posted on this site from where it may be downloaded. It will include not only application form and notes for guidance of applicants, but eventually also supplementary advice on topics such as other sources of funds.

To be eligible for a grant from the Trust, a church must be
  • in the area defined by the Anglican dioceses of Durham and Newcastle, but may be of any Christian denomination
  • in use as a place of worship. Church halls, or churches no longer in use, are ineligible.
  • listed, or built before 1945 and has some special historic interest.
We normally help only with the costs of conservation repairs, that is repairs (not modifications) carried out using traditional materials and methods. Occasionaly we may accept a non-traditional repair where there are special circumstances. We do not however help with conversions, reordering, new facilities or disabled access. Even where these may be well-designed and necessary, our grants are limited to repairs of existing fabric. More detailed guidance on this should be available soon.

If you think you church may qualify for a grant, go to the download page where our application form may be downloaded.
