St Helen’s Church St Helen Auckland by nightcan trace its origins back to 1120.  It is possible that it was built on the site of an earlier church or preaching cross.  The entrance to the church is by the original door, one of the oldest in the country.  Among the treasures of the church are a font which is probably 13th century, a grave cover of Frosterley marble thought to date from 1250, and an Elizabethan altar table.
